Community Advocates and the Milwaukee Women’s Center are thrilled to welcome Griselda Torres as our new Emergency Shelter Manager.
Griselda joins the team with nearly three decades of experience at the Social Development Commission, where she served in many roles, including Victim Assistance Specialist and Food Service Management. Her long career in community service has shaped her into a compassionate leader – exactly the kind of person who helps our guests feel safe, grounded, and hopeful.
Griselda came on board as a Case Manager at our Emergency Shelter and was tapped to become Manager when that position opened up. She stepped in wherever she was needed: front desk shifts, kitchen assistance, turning over rooms.
Even while settling into her case management role, the possibility of something more lingered. “I had it in the back of my head, but I didn’t know if it was possible,” she shared. Still, she continued to learn every corner of the shelter. Her initiative, reliability, and deep understanding of the day-to-day needs made her a good candidate for leadership.
Now officially in the role, Griselda is embracing the responsibility that comes with managing a 24/7 facility. “It is a different role in regard to the responsibilities,” she explained, acknowledging the scope and weight of the position. But if there’s one thing her colleagues already know, it’s that Griselda meets every challenge with energy and intention.
We are honored to have Griselda Torres leading the shelter team and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make. Her commitment to survivors, her willingness to step in wherever she’s needed, and her vision for growth are invaluable assets to the Milwaukee Women’s Center. Please join us in welcoming Griselda to her new role as Shelter Manager.
