Every month Community Advocates' Empowerment Coalition of Milwaukee (ECOM) hosts a workshop specific to exploring topics that are vital to professionals who show up eager to expand their knowledge of human services. Workshops are held on the third Wednesday of the month and are lively, engaging, and diverse with professional and lived experiences. July's topic was Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse, Child Abuse and Neglect.
We were privileged to hear presentations from Wraparound Milwaukee, Community Advocates' Milwaukee Family Intervention Services (MFIS) and Milwaukee Women's Center, and the Alma Center. Discussing how the utilization of holistic, evidence-based, and trauma-informed care can better serve our clients, we were able to learn about resources available within our community, for our community. While each presenter, and organization they represented, provided detailed information about a specific vision, there was a general theme evident amongst them all: Support.
Attendees joined us from various organizations and human services professions, including Ascension Family Health Center, Kids Matter Inc. and FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET). ECOM Workshops often talk about the importance of finding community, and that begins with leading by example. Therefore, our workshops are a fantastic opportunity to connect with likeminded professionals and advocates who just might be the resource you need!
Knowledge is power and it is important to remember that sharing information and resources can save someone's life. There is an abundance of wonderful organizations, programs, and resources that exist in our community that are often just a phone call away. Community Advocates would like to thank our presenters who graciously shared their insights on supporting communities and leading with love.
