Community Advocates' 6th Street Mural Celebrates Milwaukee's Cultural Diversity

A geometrical mural by Mauricio Ramirez of two culturally diverse girls looking in opposite directions. The 5,0000-square-foot mural is on the side of Community Advocates building downtown Milwaukee.

It has been almost five years since Community Advocates connected with Milwaukee muralist Mauricio Ramirez to bring color and culture to the east side of our downtown offices. Titled "Heart & Sol," the 6th Street-facing mural represents the vibrancy and diversity of our Milwaukee neighborhood as two girls gaze over our city into the future. Community Advocates and Ramirez partnered with Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 and the City of Milwaukee's Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (NIDC) - Community Improvement Project to bring the building to life.

Ramirez's art tells stories of communities and histories through his signature geometric art, which can be seen throughout Milwaukee. You may recognize his work alongside the 16th Street Community Health Center or you may have seen the Giannis Antetokounmpo mural downtown. With a personal connection to Milwaukee, Ramirez has not only created murals for the community, but with the community. The collaboration and community engagement that Ramirez brings to projects is a reminder of the hope and strength within communities.

Community Advocates employees and clients get to see the masterpiece each time before they step foot through our doors. Covering roughly 5,000 square feet, it reminds us that we are big and bold. We celebrate the impact that Ramirez's "Heart & Sol" mural has had on brightening our days by brightening our neighborhood. We celebrate Milwaukee's beauty, inside and out.
