Small Envelopes, Big Impact: How Molly Maid of East Metro Milwaukee and Racine Supports Survivors Through the Ms. Molly Foundation

Community Advocates and Molly Maid

After a professional cleaning, most people expect a spotless kitchen, freshly vacuumed carpet, and neatly folded towels. What some may not expect is a small envelope left behind with the potential to make a big impact. After completing a cleaning service, Molly Maid staff leave behind an envelope and note inviting customers to make a donation--much like leaving a tip after a service--during October and November, coinciding with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. But instead of going toward a gratuity, those donations are directed to fund critical services for domestic violence survivors.

Since 2018, Molly Maid of East Metro Milwaukee and Racine and the Ms. Molly Foundation have partnered with the Milwaukee Women's Center to help provide safety, healing, and hope for survivors and families experiencing domestic violence in our community. One household at a time, customers have the opportunity to turn a standard service into a direct impact for women and families rebuilding their lives. Clients' donations support comprehensive services and treatment to those affected by domestic violence, addiction, mental health issues, homelessness, and poverty.

Over the last decade, the dedication and tireless efforts of Molly Maid and the Ms. Molly Foundation have raised more than $44,000 in support of the Milwaukee Women's Center.

Ms. Molly Foundation was founded in 1996 to support victims of domestic violence and raise awareness about the realities that survivors face. Since its inception, the foundation has raised almost $5 million for shelters and domestic violence agencies across the country. Community Advocates and the Milwaukee Women's Center are deeply grateful to be one of them.

Throught their continued commitment to supporting survivors in Milwaukee, Molly Maid staff, customers, and the Ms. Molly Foundation demonstrate how community support can take many forms. Sometimes it looks like volunteering. Sometimes it looks like advocacy. And sometimes it looks like a cleaning crew leaving behind a small envelope with a big purpose.
