Meet Daviana: Celebrating Resilience

CA daviana success story

Daviana's life changed dramatically when she met a man from Milwaukee, charming and loving at first, who asked her to marry him. It wasn’t long after they tied the knot and moved in together that Daviana got pregnant. The seemingly nice guy that she married began to show his true colors. Dictating who she spent time with and where she went, Daviana wasn’t experiencing the happy marriage she had expected.

Marriage and Motherhood

In 2019, Daviana gave birth to her son. He spent his first month in the NICU, a time when Daviana was determined to be by his side, enduring sleepless nights while managing the emotional toll of an abusive relationship with her son's father.

After enduring the abuse, Daviana found the courage to seek help. She was referred to the Milwaukee Women’s Center at Community Advocates, a decision that would mark a turning point in her life.

Together with her mother and son, Daviana entered the Milwaukee Women's Center Emergency Shelter. That sense of support and stability allowed her to find help with navigating complex matters, including custody.

Homeownership: Growing Up

Through Community Advocates' Supportive Housing Program, which helped her with rent, Daviana was able to sign a lease for her own apartment. Participating in his program allowed Daviana to rebuild her life and save money for a home of her own, a dream she recently fulfilled.

Moving Forward and Giving Back

As Daviana reflects on her difficult journey through domestic violence and homelessness, she is grateful for the support and resources that Community Advocates provided. Now more than ever, Daviana feels empowered and hopeful about her future. Her strength and courage, coupled with the resources from Community Advocates, helped her move from experiencing homelessness to being a homeowner.

She's currently focused on raising her son, healing, and growth. She eventually sees herself helping other women in similar situations to navigate challenges and find hope.
