Chamber Ensemble Brings Holiday Spirit to Autumn West

Community Advocates staff is gathered around four chamber ensemble students with their string instruments.

Homestead High School students and chamber ensemble members brought their string instruments to the Autumn West Safe Haven on December 10th to spread musical joy - and that they did! Residents and staff welcomed the four musicians into their multi-purpose room for a concert filled with purpose.

The spectators swayed in their seats surrounded by holiday decorations as the young artists performed a variety of fan favorites. From holiday classics and The Sound of Music to Coldplay and Billie Eilish, each note struck a chord in the hearts of those listening.

Contributing to the embodiment of the holiday spirit, warm coffee and cookies kept everyone cozy. A brief intermission allowed for interaction between performers and audience. The ensemble spoke about their instruments, describing the difference between violin and viola to an intrigued and curious crowd.

Upon completion of the final song, followed by a standing ovation, Autumn West residents participated in a raffle drawing for various items. One happy resident took a floral quilt back to her apartment, holding it tight and exclaiming “it’s an early Christmas present.”

Organizing this performance on their own accord, Community Advocates and Autumn West extend our sincerest gratitude to the young gentlemen for taking time out of their week to fill our halls with music and cheer. In the wise words of Irish singer-songwriter and activist Bono, “music can change the world because it can change people.” Impressed and appreciative, Autumn West residents and staff carried on with their evening shining brighter, feeling warmer, and illustrating the positive power of music.
