  you how to identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness a
 nd substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to
  reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a 
 mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the approp
 riate care.\n\nWhat the Mental Health First Aid Course offers:\n• Common s
 igns and symptoms of mental illness\n• Common signs and symptoms of substa
 nce use\n• How to interact with a person in crisis\n• How to connect the p
 erson with help\n• Content on trauma\, addiction\, and self-care\n\nThe co
 urse will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:\n• Assess for risk
  of suicide or harm.\n• Listen nonjudgmentally.\n• Give reassurance and in
 formation.\n• Encourage appropriate professional help.\n• Encourage self-h
