 u how to identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and 
 substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to re
 ach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a men
 tal health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropria
 te care.\n\nWhat the Mental Health First Aid Course offers:\n• Common sign
 s and symptoms of mental illness\n• Common signs and symptoms of substance
  use\n• How to interact with a person in crisis\n• How to connect the pers
 on with help\n• Content on trauma\, addiction\, and self-care\n\nThe cours
 e will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:\n• Assess for risk of
  suicide or harm.\n• Listen nonjudgmentally.\n• Give reassurance and infor
 mation.\n• Encourage appropriate professional help.\n• Encourage self-help
