Book reading explores eviction and racial disparities in Milwaukee
Five years ago, Matthew Desmond came to Milwaukee to understand the variety and nature of housing evictions in our city. Then a graduate student, now a Harvard sociologist and recipient of the 2015 MacArthur "Genius Grant" award, Desmond embedded with Community Advocates staff to learn about housing and eviction in Milwaukee.
His book, Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City, follows the stories of eight families living on the edge in Milwaukee, and two landlords who must decide how to react when rent is due but not paid.
Desmond will speak on these issues, and read from his book, at Boswell Book Company on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:00pm. Community Advocates is co-sponsoring the event. The event is free and open to the public but we as you to RSVP with a simple email to firstname.lastname@example.org as a courtest. Learn more here. Hope to see you there!
